Minister Cannon to Participate in London Meetings on Yemen
The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has announced that he will travel to London on January 27, 2010, to attend a meeting of foreign ministers on the subject of Yemen, after which he will participate in the January 28th London Conference.
“I look forward to attending the London meeting on Yemen, a country facing difficult economic and political challenges, including the growing threat of Al Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula,” said Minister Cannon. “I met with Yemen’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Abubaker Alqirbi, earlier this week in Ottawa and assured him that Canada is committed to exploring, with its international partners, the best ways to help Yemen fight terrorism and ensure its development.”
At the London meeting, representatives of the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States and several European, Asian and Middle Eastern countries, as well as representatives of international organizations, will discuss how the international community can assist Yemen to address its various security, political and social challenges.
