Ambassador Bahah met with the Secretary of State for Democratic Reform, The Honourable Steven Fletcher, at Parliament Hill on March 30th, 2009.

His Excellency presented Mr. Fletcher with a book on Yemen, and then engaged in an excellent discussion of Yemen’s remarkable road to democracy. A portion of the conversation covered the history of developments in the electoral process since unification in 1990, including details of the first election in 1993, as well as the democratic evolution leading up to the recent and highly successful election of 2006 in which women actively participated in the voting process.

His Excellency and Secretary Fletcher look forward to the opportunity for further personal collaboration in the developing democratization of Yemen and the prospects of cooperation in further strengthening the bonds between our two great countries.
