Founder of the First NGO to monitor the Parlimentary Elections in Yemen 1992-1993

Joined the Diplomatic Service in 1988

Work Experience:

  • 1982-1988 Worked in private sector.
  • 1988-1990 First Secretary at the Yemen Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
  • 1990-1992 First Secretary at the Foreign Ministry in Sana'a .
  • 1992-1993 Chaired the first NGO to monitor the Parliamentary elections in Yemen.
  • Sep.1993: Participated in assessing the Parliamentary elections in Jordan with the National Democratic Institute (NDI).
  • 1993 – 1996: Minister Plenipotentiary at the Foreign Ministry in Sana’a.
  • Jan.1996 – June 1996: Charge d’affaires to South Africa.
  • Sep.1996 – July 1999: Ambassador to Bahrain.
  • August 1999 – Nov.2003: Ambassador to Canada
  • Nov.2003 – Present: Deputy Foreign Minister (Europe, Americas, and Int’l Organizations).
  • Participated in numerous international conferences.
  • Wrote extensively about the importance of need of political reform in the Muslim World. The articles have been translated to different languages.
  • Fluent in English and French.
